Dan Monsivais is a contemporary Mexican artist whose work explores the inner landscape of the human being through painting, illustration, and expanded painting. A graduate in Contemporary Art from the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí (UASLP), the artist transforms invisible processes such as dreams, memory, identity, and imagination into images imbued with profound symbolism, fusing influences from surrealism and figuration.
His artistic practice stems from an intimate relationship with the dream world and self-exploration, fueled by the study of psychology, mysticism, and spiritual traditions. Using a dream journal as a creative starting point, Monsivais constructs visual universes in oil and acrylic that invite the viewer to find their own interpretations. More than representing personal experiences, his pieces seek to create a shared space where the public can recognize themselves, remember their own history, and heal.
With a solid track record in contemporary art in Mexico, her work has been exhibited in prominent museums, galleries, and art fairs. Among her most important exhibitions are her solo show, Cuentos de Tormenta (2026), at the Museum of Contemporary Art of San Luis Potosí, as well as group exhibitions at the San Luis Potosí Arts Center and the MUYGUUD International Art Fair. She is currently continuing her visual research to create a symbolic archive of the human experience.
STATEMENT
My artistic practice is a dissection of the human inner landscape, where I transform dreams, memory, and identity into visual matter. Through disciplines such as painting, illustration, and expanded painting, I use oil and acrylic techniques to construct a visual language influenced by surrealism, figuration, and symbolism. Drawing on a rigorous dream journal and the study of psychology and mysticism, I create open and symbolic images that do not seek to provide definitive answers, but rather offer a space for accompaniment and self-exploration where your own experience connects with a collective territory.
